Asus ROG Destrier Ergo: 919 euro chair with expertise and smartphone mode

Asus gaming chair ROG Destrier Ergo is said to combine an ergonomic design with gaming adjustments. This includes a special smartphone mode that makes playing with mobile devices easier, according to the manufacturer. The price for the fusion: a whopping 919 euros.

Gaming chairs usually imitate bucket seats from racing in order to visually suggest gaming suitability and an absolutely secure hold. Ergonomically, however, this product category is controversial. With the ROG Destrier Ergo announced for the first quarter of 2023, Asus is now going in a different direction: the model is based heavily on high-end office chairs.

To transfer almost 1,000 euros to a newcomer on the market without a reputation in this area is asking a lot. Asus therefore refers to the collaboration with "Exobone Studio" on the product page in the "Design Story" area, which is presented as a "furniture expert". One focus of the joint development was on seating comfort, even after long periods of use, and high ergonomics. However, nothing can be found out about Exobone's reputation. A Google search leads nowhere, a company with this name and this description could not be made out on the web. The press department of Asus Germany promised more details when asked by ComputerBase, but these have not yet been received.

A question mark must therefore be placed behind the quality of the advertised features. Advertised are breathable mesh seats, artificial leather armrests that can be adjusted in depth and height, a tilting backrest, a lumbar support that can be adjusted in height and depth, and an adjustable headrest, behind which there is a removable "noise protection" that is intended to reduce the noise from lateral sources of noise. The armrests can even be raised by 14 centimetres. According to Asus, this is the " ideal height for handheld gaming ", for example on smartphones.
