Asus opens new Advantage vintage
Asus is opening the 2023 vintage of these specially adapted notebooks with the TUF Gaming A16 Advantage Edition (FA617), for which the manufacturer has not yet provided any information on price and availability. In view of the fact that many notebook manufacturers are planning the versions with new AMD CPUs and GPUs later than the Intel counterparts at CES, Asus is also not planning to launch them before spring or summer. The TUF Gaming A16 Advantage Edition (FA617) could become something like the reference notebook for testers of the new AMD hardware, because its equipment is so far unique.
Radeon RX 7000 Mobile with 8 GB GDDR6 and 120 Watt TGP
The notebook is characterized by the use of the mobile Ryzen 7000 based on Zen 4, which can be selected up to an unspecified Ryzen 9. AMD has yet to announce the graphics card, but Asus is openly talking about using a (up to) mobile Radeon RX 7000 based on RDNA 3 with 8 GB GDDR6 and a TGP of 120 watts. These cornerstones of the notebook are combined with up to 32 GB of DDR5-4800 and an SSD of up to 2 TB. Depending on the equipment, seven heat pipes and several arc-flow fans are supposed to dissipate the waste heat.
Two 16 inch displays to choose from
The image output is on 16 inches and two different IPS panels, which differ in terms of resolution, refresh rate and color space coverage. The better of the two panels offers 2,560 × 1,600 pixels at 240 Hz and is said to cover 100 percent of DCI-P3. AMD FreeSync Premium is included for both screens.
Platform delivers USB-C 4.0 and HDMI 2.1
When it comes to connections, there is a large selection of modern ports such as USB-C 4.0, which the new AMD platform brings along natively, and HDMI 2.1 via the new Radeon graphics cards. In the 354.9 × 251.9 × 22.15 - 26.75 mm housing, which weighs 2.2 kg, Asus also accommodates a 90 Wh battery, for which there is a dedicated charging port, unless USB power Delivery is used. In addition to matte black, the TUF Gaming A16 Advantage Edition (FA617) comes in a military-inspired Sandstorm colorway.
