Samsung is presenting the new Odyssey Neo G9 with 57 inches and 7,680 × 2,160 pixels (Dual UHD) and the Odyssey OLED G9 with a 49-inch OLED panel at CES 2023. Both displays use a 32:9 aspect ratio and are curved, the new larger Neo G9 at 1000R and the OLED G9 at 1800R.
Odyssey Neo G9 with more diagonal and pixels
Compared to last year's model, the Odyssey Neo G9 G95NA, this year's Odyssey Neo G9 G95NC not only has a larger display from 49 to 57 inches, but also the resolution from 5,120 × 1,440 pixels to 7,680 × 2,160 pixels - it is the first dual Samsung UHD monitor at all. Nothing has changed in the strong curvature of the 1000R compared to the Neo G9 (2021).
DisplayPort 2.1 und Mini-LED-Backlight
As with the predecessor, Samsung again relies on the mini-LED technology with Quantum Dot as a backlight, but does not yet provide any information on the number of individual zones in the announcement. The predecessor used local dimming with 2,048 zones. Details on the brightness are also still missing, Samsung only mentions the certification according to DisplayHDR 1000, which at least ensures that the monitor can shine up to 1,000 cd/m² brightly in certain areas. The display has a matte surface to reduce reflections. As with the predecessor, it also offers a variable refresh rate of up to 240 Hz. So far, at least one DisplayPort 2.1 is known for the connections, while the predecessor still uses DisplayPort 1.4.
No price and no date yet
Further technical details are still missing. Since Samsung also gives neither a price nor a date for the Odyssey Neo G9 G95NC, the actual availability should be a little longer in coming.
The Odyssey OLED G9 uses a 49-inch OLED panel
The Odyssey OLED G9 (model name: G95SC) complements the Odyssey monitor series with a model with a 49-inch OLED display, which is less curved with 1800R and the dual QHD resolution of 5,120 × 1,440 pixels known for the displays offers. The aspect ratio of the OLED model is also 32:9. According to Samsung, the response time is 0.1 ms and, like the other Odyssey G9 monitors, the refresh rate is variable and up to 240 Hz fast. Samsung officially states the contrast as 1,000,000:1, although this value is only of a theoretical nature, since OLED displays completely switch off their pixels when displaying black and thus deliver a perfect black value.
Smart Hub for Netflix and Co
The Odyssey OLED G9 also supports apps such as Prime Video, Netflix and YouTube directly via Samsung's Smart Hub, so that videos, series and films from these platforms can be played without having to run a PC.
Gaming hub for cloud game streaming
The monitor also comes with the Samsung Gaming Hub, an all-in-one game streaming platform that allows users to play games from partners like Xbox and Nvidia GeForce Now over the cloud without the need for a console or games need to be downloaded.
price and availability
For the Odyssey OLED G9 G95SC, Samsung has not announced a date or a price for Germany either. In the past, Odyssey monitors were only available in the summer of the respective year after the announcement at CES. For comparison: The 55-inch Odyssey The Ark with mini-LED technology, UHD resolution and 165 Hz cost 3,400 euros when it was launched in August 2022.
